How did "A 100 Days Husband" become the number one drama on Mondays-Tuesdays?

tvN's drama "A 100 Days Husband" had a 10.3 percent viewership rating this week. (Based on Nielsen Korea, nationwide paid platforms). This is the only two-digit viewership rating of five monthly shows broadcast at the same time. It is even exceeding "Another Miss Oh" which has one of the highest ratings in cable.

There was great concern before starting the drama as it took a long time to find the male lead, there were people who were doubting the drama would even get done. In addition, there was  prejudice that the story is too similar to "Shopping King Louis" as a perfect male hero losing his memory and falling in love under the care of an ordinary female hero. However, the drama is considered to be a well-made romance between broadcasters and viewers as it is a mix of "Moon Embracing the Sun" and "Moonlight Drawn By Clouds".

The main trope that a prince, in the middle of a power struggle, falls in love with a woman who keeps her past secret is no different from the usual romance historical drama. The drama tried to differentiate the prince by setting him as a commoner. Do Kyung-soo, with his habitual catchphrase "I'm feeling uncomfortable", has the charm of reversing a cold relationship with the villagers and the main couple look like a fairytale.

Especially, the great advantage of the drama is its sense of balance. Romance and power struggle unfold in a balanced way, continuing the tension. In addition, each person from the main character to the supporting actors are playing in harmony and getting immersed in their roles. There are many comical elements and lines that are not suited for a historical but still come out looking good.

Above all, Do Kyung-soo and Nam Ji-hyun's chemistry is alive as the drama unfolds. Both actors have no differences in acting ability and they are getting immersed in their characters of Won-deuk and Hong-shim, making viewers naturally feel the romance. Although Do Kyung-soo shouts, "Am I the only one feeling uncomfortable?" the audience agrees that viewers can enjoy the movie comfortably without any inconvenience.
